Pour cream of mushroom soup

Creamy Mushroom Baked Hamburger Patties

This easy, comforting casserole-style dish features juicy ground beef patties smothered in creamy mushroom soup. It’s a simple weeknight dinner that bakes in one dish with minimal prep. Perfect served over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.

Ingredients (serves 4-6)

  • 6-8 raw hamburger patties (about 4-5 oz / 115-140 g each), made from 2–2.5 lbs (900 g – 1.1 kg) ground beef
  • 1–2 cans (10.5 oz / 298 g each) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup (120 ml) milk or water (optional, to thin the soup slightly)
  • 1 small onion, finely diced or sliced (optional)
  • 1–2 garlic cloves, minced (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp dried thyme or parsley (optional)
  • Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare the patties: Season the raw hamburger patties generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and any other desired spices. If using, mix the diced onion and minced garlic into the ground beef before forming the patties.
  3. Arrange in baking dish: Place the patties in a single layer in a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) glass baking dish or similar oven-safe casserole.
  4. Make the sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup with the milk or water until smooth. Pour the mixture evenly over the patties, making sure each one is well covered. Use a spoon to spread the sauce if needed.
  5. Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through (internal temperature of 160°F / 71°C) and the sauce is hot and bubbly.
  6. Rest and serve: Let the dish rest for 5 minutes. Spoon extra mushroom gravy over the patties when serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley or green onions.

Serving Suggestions

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Steamed rice or egg noodles
  • Roasted vegetables or a simple green salad
  • Buttered bread or dinner rolls to soak up the delicious gravy

Tips

  • For extra flavor, you can brown the patties in a skillet for 2–3 minutes per side before adding the soup and baking.
  • Add sliced mushrooms, Worcestershire sauce, or a splash of soy sauce to the soup mixture for more depth.
  • Leftovers reheat well and taste even better the next day.

Enjoy this hearty, family-friendly meal! It’s budget-friendly and requires almost no cleanup.
